140.6 & 70.3 Finisher Data Decreases of 5.5% and 10% - North America Market

Summary.  WTC’s struggles continued in 2018 with lower finisher numbers at both the 140.6 (-5.5%) and 70.3 (-10%) distances.

2019 Outlook:  WTC plans on 14x 140.6 mile events and 40x 70.3 mile events for a total of 54 races in 2019.  At the 140.6 distance, Boulder, Canada & Maryland are prime targets for the 2020 or 2021 chopping block based on past trends.  As far as the 70.3 events, WTC will increase from 36 to 40 races including 2 races that were formerly Rev3. We expect continued shuffling at the 70.3 mile distance based on whether WTC can extract favorable municipality deal terms similar to Indian Wells.
