2020 Ironman Arizona 70.3 was held Sunday, October 18, 2020.  It was the first U.S. Ironman since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.  The limited finisher data suggests athletes, especially women, are cautious relative to a return to racing at this time.

  • -53% decrease in finishers YoY (609 in ‘20 versus 1,286 in ‘19).  This includes -47% male & -64% female
  • 27% female participation rate in 2020 compared to 35% in 2019.  There were only 10 finishers for all women ages 60 and above
  • It was a good opportunity for Ironman to operationalize their Covid-19 policies.
