ERIN GALATI’S REMARKABLE 1ST RACE. Erin signed up for Monticelloman – Olympic Distance -as her 1st race. 1st out of the water for the women, she was cruising along 5 miles into the bike when her well planned morning went out the window. Monticelloman is in rural Virginia where tourists go to interact with nature. Erin got a little too much nature that morning. A deer jumped to clear a fence beside the road she was traversing. The deer clipped the fence and tumbled into the side of Erin’s bike. Erin hit the pavement and the deer scampered away as it continued along with it’s morning.
Here is the remarkable part. Erin shook off the dirt, got back on her bike and rode 20 more miles and then ran 6.2 miles to finish her race! It was only later that she was treated for a broken wrist and forearm. She did it all with a smile on her face. Tip of the hat to Erin Galati who has a story she will never forget.
