• ATTENDANCE.  Sunday afternoon at 2pm PT/5pm ET monthly for 60 minutes is typically the best time, frequency and duration to meet the organizational needs. We enjoyed very solid attendance for the final meeting of 2018.  If you are interested in filling one of the open roles in the California Triathlon leadership please contact Thom at Thom@CaliforniaTriathlon.org.
  • TREASURER’S REPORT.  $8,778.13 is the current available balance.  We are completely current with no bills outstanding.
  • NEW BOOKKEEPER.  Starting 11.15.18, Farris Bookkeeping will perform the following bookkeeping services for $70/month.
    • Record all deposits and expenses.
    • Reconcile the accounts (checking, credit cards, etc.) monthly.
    • Create a balance sheet and Profit and Loss monthly.
  • PERFORMANCE BIKE BANKRUPTCY.  The specialty retail space is really tough even for our long term partner Performance Bike.  Performance Bicycle will close 40 stores as part of its bankruptcy  LINK.  We have not been provided guidance how this will impact our partnership with Performance Bike in 2019 and beyond.
  • 2018 MEMBERSHIP SURVEY DISCUSSION.  Surveys were sent to 5,000 California Triathlon members with a deadline of 12.7.18.  We expect about 300 responses or a response rate of 6%.  A final report will be produced in mid-December.  Some of the initial responses are:
    • California Triathlon and our activities are highly rated by 85 and 86% of the respondents
    • Respondents were most interested in the following activities:
      • 57.5% Cal Tri Events
      • 54% Free Membership
      • 38.5% Cal Tri Events Clinics
      • 38% Stay Connected With The Triathlon Community
      • 35% Epic Rides
    • 85% get just the right amount of information with 13% indicating they get too little and 2% indicating they get too much.
    • 87.5% of respondents get information from messages from team leaders or the website.
      • 56.5% Messages from team leaders
      • 31% Website
      • 10.5% Facebook
      • 2% Instagram
    • Comments were mainly bucketed into 3 areas:
      • Keep It Up.  An overwhelming majority of the respondents were generous in their appreciation for our efforts.  About 50% indicated they would consider getting involved at a higher level such as leader or volunteer.
      • Be Everywhere - NOW!  It is a huge compliment as well as an overwhelming undertaking to be everything to everyone.  We will continue to be strategic where we spend finite resources but our focus on making the sport more affordable and accessible will continue.
      • Assistance Setting Up Local Training.  95% of Cal Tri training is led by members who share their workouts with others.  Members who want more local training need to be educated on the tools and process in place to share their training with their community.
  • CALIFORNIA TRIATHLON YOUTH TRIATHLON LEAGUE.  We are pleased to add John McKenzie to the California Triathlon leadership.  John and a few other tireless souls have dedicated a lot of time providing coaching and racing opportunities for the next generation of triathletes.  We plan on using their work as a template to make a major investment in youth triathlon in preparation for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
    • CALIFORNIA TRIATHLON YOUTH TRIATHLON LEAGUE.  A points based system where youth age 7-22 will accumulate points to qualify and earn a spot to compete in the California Triathlon Youth State Championship at 2019 Trick or Tri on 10.26.19.  We look to expand this to other states in 2020 and beyond.
    • DEDICATED COACHING.  All Cal Tri Events clinics will have a dedicated youth coach as part of the clinic coaching support at no cost to the participants.  For 2019 that is 24 three hour clinics in LA, Orange and Ventura county.
    • 22ANDUNDER 50% Discount.  Young athletes ages 7-22 can get 50% off of Cal Tri Events races.  This means pricing as low as $30 for a sprint distance and $37.50 for an Olympic in 2019.  We will reach out to other races to promote the 22ANDUNDER 50% discount code.
    • FUNDING.  100% of fundraising dollars earned by California Triathlon members who volunteer at sports events like LA Rams games or Anaheim Angels games will go to support the CALIFORNIA TRIATHLON YOUTH TRIATHLON LEAGUE.  We will also look to appeal to our public private partnerships for grants or matching dollars.  Our 2019 funding goal is $25,000.

The 1st meeting of 2019 is Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 2pm PT/5pm ET.
